Christmas Holiday Period May Have Been Deadliest Since 2009

According to estimates from the National Safety Council, the three-day Christmas holiday period in 2015 may have been the deadliest for motor-vehicle crashes since 2009. The Council estimated traffic crashes would cause 307 fatalities and 37,200 serious injuries.
During the three-day New Year’s holiday period, the National Safety Council estimated traffic crashes would cause 346 fatalities and 41,900 serious injuries.
2015 was a particularly deadly year in terms of traffic crashes. Traffic deaths through the first ten months of the year rose significantly year-over-year, according to preliminary estimates from the National Safety Council.
