General Motors (GM) is recalling about 1.4 million vehicles, 1.3 million of which are in the U.S., over fire risks. This is the company’s fourth recall over the problem, which is caused by oil dripping on hot engine components. Despite the earlies recalls, the problem has continued to cause vehicle fires.
The auto manufacturer said it knew of 1,345 incidents of fires in vehicles that had been repaired in earlier recalls. There were 19 reported injuries and damage to structures such as garages. According to GM, the problem was made worse by the engine valve cover, a different component, deteriorating in some vehicles.
